Professor Jae-Hyung Jang of the Department of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering at Yonsei University has been selected for the “Top 30 Health and Medical R&D Achievements of 2026,” announced by the Ministry of Health and Welfare (MOHW) and the Korea Health Industry Development Institute (KHIDI). The recognized achievement is the “Development and Technology Transfer of an Engineered AAV Gene Delivery Platform with In Vivo Cell-Targeting Capability.”
The MOHW and KHIDI announced that they finalized this year’s Top 30 achievements on the 8th, following a preliminary review and evaluation by the Outstanding Achievement Recommendation Committee. The Top 30 program was established to identify the accomplishments of health and medical R&D researchers and to raise public awareness of their work. Selections are made through a comprehensive assessment of academic excellence, technological innovation, industrial impact, and contribution to public health.
The selected achievements become eligible for government commendation for contributors to health and medical technology advancement by the MOHW, as well as nomination for the Ministry of Science and ICT’s “Top 100 National R&D Achievements.” They are also scheduled to be published in a casebook this coming September.
Soon-Do Cha, President of the Korea Health Industry Development Institute, said, “The Top 30 achievements demonstrate how researchers’ challenges and innovations are leading to improved public health and enhanced competitiveness in the bio-health industry. We will continue to support these innovative technologies as they move toward technology transfer, commercialization, and entry into global markets.”
Professor Jang also serves as Chief Technology Officer (CTO) of GluGene Therapeutics, the biotech company that received the transfer of this technology. The company stated, “Building on our collaboration with Professor Jang, we are continuously advancing our technology and expanding our gene therapy pipeline.”
